We left Fukuoka in the morning, and by the time my mother and I reached Osaka, the heat and humidity felt almost unbearable.
That evening, we checked in near Sugata Hotel Shinsaibashi and just wanted a nice dinner.
I asked Gemini for dinner ideas, and it suggested three places: a crispy pork cutlet rice bowl, a pork-broth ramen spot, and Udon Kawafuku Honten. My mother wanted udon, so our choice was simple.
Before dinner, we took a walk after sunset through the wide Crysta Nagahori underground boulevard and the busy Shinsaibashi Shopping Arcade. Getting out of the heat and exploring the bright streets was a great way to start our evening in Osaka.
At around 7:00 p.m., we stepped through the noren curtain at Udon Kawafuku Honten. Even though it was in a central spot, the place was almost empty except for one tourist family. Walking inside was a relief as the cool air quickly took away the sweat from the humid evening.
The menu had a few unique dishes, but the restaurant seemed best known for its Udon Sukiyaki. We decided on Ume Toji Udon, Ushi Nan Udon, and a small plate of Inari Zushi.
The Ume Toji Udon was really refreshing. The gentle sourness of the umeboshi mixed into the savoury broth, and the soft egg added a nice richness. It felt like the perfect meal after a hot summer day.

The Ushi Nan Udon was just as good, but in its own way. Unlike a lot of beef udon that can be quite sweet, this one was lighter and more balanced. The broth and beef worked well together without overpowering the taste.

The biggest surprise was the Inari Zushi. Each piece was small but full of flavour. The black sesame seeds gave it a special aroma and texture, making it much more interesting than a typical side dish.

I ended the meal with a small bottled Coca-Cola, which felt like the perfect finish. The bill was about ¥3,600, and to my delight, my mother paid for it.
Even though the restaurant is close to Osaka's busiest shopping area, it's a bit off the main path. With so many places to eat in Shinsaibashi, you could easily miss it.
After this visit, I can say Gemini's recommendation was excellent.
Sometimes, the best memories come from restaurants tucked just out of sight from the crowds.
